10 tips to get more involved in Central Iowa PRSA

Contributed by Central Iowa PRSA delegate and ethics chair, Kathy Krafka-Harkema, APR.

Whether you're a solo PR practitioner, or part of a larger group of PR pros, as a member of PRSA, you're in good company. Have a question? Need to connect with another PR professional to get a second opinion? Looking to broaden your PR experience? PRSA is your go-to network for professional development. Are you taking advantage of all our state's PRSA chapter has to offer?

Challenge yourself to get more involved in our Central Iowa Chapter, which serves the entire state. Try these tips to get started!

1. Support our community. Attend a chapter event. Register for future events at prsaciowa.org.

2. Engage. Follow us on Facebook at PRSA Central Iowa and engage in the conversation.

3. Share the news. Follow us on Twitter @PRSACIowa and retweet our posts to help spread the word.

4. Grow our ranks. Bring a colleague to a PRSA event, and encourage them to get involved.

5. Listen in. Take part in PRSA webinars, many of which are free with your PRSA membership. Learn more at prsa.org, log in under "My PRSA" and search for upcoming webinars or events.

6. Save the date. Plan to attend the Central Iowa PRSA OctoPRfest Oct. 18, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield in downtown Des Moines. It's Iowa's PRSA networking, professional development and recognition event of the year.

7. Show your work. Consider what you can enter in our chapter's PRSA PRIME awards, presented Oct. 18, 2018. Check out the new categories, and more here.

8. Get social. Volunteer to assist with our chapter's professional development/social committee. Contact Kelly Bruhn (kelly.bruhn@drake.edu) to get involved.

9. Check out PRSA careers. Know someone looking to expand their PR team, or looking for a new career? Check out the PRSA Central Iowa Job Bank on our website at prsaciowa.org.

10. Give thanks. Thank our sponsors. Send a handwritten thank you or post a quick note on the Facebook pages of those who sponsor our PRSA events. Their support helps support our chapter and our profession. While you're at it, thank those who volunteer thier time and talent to bring our chapter programs and events to life. Lead by example. Take and make time to say thank you.
