PRIME Award Winner: Annual Report

For more than 75 years, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been a leading health care insurer in Iowa and South Dakota. The company’s annual report, Wellmarkability, won a 2017 PRIME Award for its innovation and quality.

Purpose:

The purpose of developing the Wellmarkability report was to highlight Wellmark’s key accomplishments from 2016 and provide information on the company’s efforts to transform the health care system.

“Wellmark’s strategic priorities focus on how we will achieve our goals inside the health care system, outside the health care system as well as inside Wellmark,” said Tracy Smith, director, corporate communications. “Wellmarkability provided the perfect way to showcase our progress in an easy and transparent way.”

The problem:

Evolve the annual report from a printed piece to an interactive and responsive design with simple, understandable content to engage readers. The previous report was printed and not easily available for all stakeholders, and this new format would make the information easy to distribute and share in a more timely way.

The goal:

The overall goal of the Wellmarkability Report was to position Wellmark as a thought leader among key stakeholders in Iowa and South Dakota. The report demonstrates what Wellmark has achieved in the past year with regard to their sustainability imperative, key initiatives, progress and achievements.

Tactics:

  • Distributed to employees through internal communication channels.
  • Created an email template to send to key audiences (agents, legislators, providers, etc.).
  • News release to statewide news media.
  • Share report on company social media channels.
  • Link the report available on Wellmark.com.
  • Repurpose content from the report in recruiting brochures used at career fairs and recruiting events.
