Position Purpose:
The Specialist will assist in the process of telling the organizational story of our team, our culture, and our achievements both internally and externally through written and visual communications. In this role, the Specialist will span a variety of formats and media from web and printed collateral to newsletters, videos and social media.

Responsible for internal communications and community relations activities for Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines). This position plays a key role in impacting employee engagement, organizational communications, supporting the Bank’s values and increasing brand awareness of the Bank in key communities. Must be able to effectively manage deadlines while working with a high degree of independence and interface with Senior Management and Human Resources to understand or plan communication pieces.


  • Create and implement communications plans in support of Bank initiatives
  • Develop creative internal communication strategies
  • Write and edit internal communications
  • Maintain FHLB Des Moines intranet, including writing, updating and posting content
  • Oversee editorial calendars, monthly dashboards and other employee communication processes
  • Support and enhance the Bank’s employer brand, culture and diversity/inclusion efforts
  • Explore digital/emerging technologies for application to internal audiences
  • Provide oversight to the Bank’s intranet content contributor group
  • Act as communication business partner to various internal clients
  • Review and analyze internal communication measurement, including web analytics
  • Co-chair FHLB Des Moines Community and Employee Events Team
  • Assist in planning employee meetings and events
  • Other duties and projects as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field
  • Five plus years of experience – preferably internal communications experience
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communication plans
  • Strong writing, communication, multitasking, organizational, interpersonal and project
  • management skills are critical
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative, Web Suites (i.e., Photoshop, InDesign, Hootsuite),
  • WordPress, (or other content management system), web analytics and online reporting
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and act independently
  • Must be creative, positive and conversational and reflect those qualities within the tone of writing.
  • Desire to ask good questions to ensure that you understand the subject or the audience and what it will take for the content to connect the two
