Letter from the President:
Welcome to the 2009/2010 Programming Year
Welcome to another programming year for the Central Iowa PRSA Chapter!

The chapter's leadership team has been very busy this summer planning activities and has many exciting things in the works for the fall and spring.  In fact, this year, 25 members have either taken on board responsibilities or are leading committees.  Thank you to all of you for your dedication to the chapter!

One of the best ways to get the most out of your PRSA membership is to get involved in a chapter committee, and we have plenty of opportunities this year. Committee members are needed to help with planning our monthly meetings, our annual Institute event, which will be held in October 2010, our chapter's awards evening in the spring, as well as with social and professional development events all throughout the year, just to name a few.

If you are interested in volunteering on a committee, please visit the board of directors tab on our chapter Web site at www.prsaciowa.org and contact a chapter leader. Or, you can always feel free to send me a note or give me a call.

Enjoy the programming year!

Darin Leach, APR
President, Central Iowa PRSA Chapter

Mark Aeilts Wins Volunteer Service Award for Meals Project
In February 2009, Mark Aeilts, one of the founders of Meals from the Heartland (MftH), spoke at the PRSA luncheon about how the organization galvanized their grassroots program with volunteer recruitment, promotional efforts and event planning. This last July, Mark, who also is a Wells Fargo employee, was named recipient of the top 2009 Wells Fargo Volunteer Service Award, earning $50,000 for MftH.

In 2008, MftH drew more than 12,000 volunteers who packaged four million meals that were distributed to impoverished citizens of Haiti and other countries in Central America. The project also provided 12,000 pounds of perishable food items to the Central Iowa Food Bank and 12,000 school supplies to students in Iowa communities impacted by flooding and tornadoes.
