Participate in PRSA Events and Activities
November is always a month of extremes. In our personal lives, there may be a sense of calm as we enter the month, but we know this feeling won’t last, as the hectic holidays will soon be here. At work, we may find ourselves taking a breath as we wrap up projects for the year. However, there is very little time to pause as planning for 2010 is in full swing.
Our PRSA chapter is following a similar path this year as we are adding some special activities as we end 2009. I encourage you to get the most out of your PRSA chapter membership by participating in as many of these events and activities as possible, including the following:
- In November and December, we are asking members to sign up and be a mentor for PRSSA students from Iowa State University, Drake University and/or Simpson College. Matches will be made toward the end of December and mentors and mentees will be encouraged to meet during the spring 2010 semester. See the article in this newsletter for more information.
- Our last monthly meeting of the year is taking place on Thursday, Nov. 19. I hope to see many of you there! Please note that we will not have a monthly meeting in December, but they will return again in January.
- A professional development and social activity is being planned for December. Look for more information on these soon.
- In early January, we will be sending out the call for entries for 2010 Prime Awards. Our evening awards ceremony will be in April. This is a great opportunity to get well-deserved recognition for all of the hard work you put in during the year.
- If your company would be interested in sponsoring a speaker to headline a meeting or event in 2010, please let us know.
- Continue to look for e-mails, check our Web site, visit our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter to keep informed of all chapter events and activities.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday season – and thank you for continuing to support the Central Iowa PRSA chapter.

Student/Professional Mentor Program
The Central Iowa PRSA chapter will once again initiate its student/professional mentoring program for the spring of 2010. During the months of November and December, PRSA members are encouraged to sign up to serve as a professional mentor for PRSSA students attending Iowa State University, Drake University and Simpson College.
Matches between students and professionals will be determined in December and students and mentors will be encouraged to set up times during the semester to meet with each other. These meetings may be half or full-day job shadows, luncheons or informational interviews and may include such things as reviewing resumes, mock interviews or discussing the job market.
In February, professionals and their student mentees will be invited and encouraged to attend the February PRSA luncheon to convene with each other and meet other professionals and students. If you are interested in mentoring one or more students, please contact Kathy Coady with the Principal Financial Group at coady.kathy@principal.com or 515-362-2803. |
