Program Recap

Dawn Buzynski, Executive Director of Public Relations at Strategic America recently attended the 2017 PRSA Counselors Academy in Seattle in May.

Counselors Academy is a professional interest section of PRSA for agency leaders and independent practitioners that functions as a peer network to provide business counsel and share best practices. The annual spring conference is when CAPRSA members and guests gather to learn from each other about what’s going on in the industry, trends and business insights.

This year was her second time attending, and she said she gained an incredible amount of knowledge is a very short time. Here are her top takeaways and inspiration from the session:

  • Diversity Matters: Agencies need to be aggressive in their recruiting of minorities to the PR profession. Statistics show that you are 152 percent more likely to understand the needs of a diverse audience if you have representation of culture.

  • Building a Millennial Culture: Millennials and Gen Z-ers will makeup 75 percent of the workforce by 2025.

  • Tell Your Story: We spend time developing the stories of our clients, yet we need to give as much effort building our personal brands.
