Thriving Workforce: What An Organization Really Needs
Is engaging your employees the best way to create sustainable performance? Or should employees be self-motivated? It is proven that thriving employees are more committed to their organization, more satisfied with their job, and more importantly, they provide better performance with less burnout. In this session, an introduction of thriving will be given, and you will leave with a completely new mindset to view employee development and motivation.

Ethics, Strengthening Our Core
Not only our bodies need regular exercise to stay in top shape. Our behavior also needs regular positive reinforcement and training to help us stay on the right track professionally.
September is Ethics Month, and this year’s theme, “Ethics, Strengthening Our Core,” is a great way to think about how we need to take time to exercise our ethical behaviors and stay in training throughout the year to remain ethical professionals throughout our career.
Hopefully ethics are already a part of your daily activities as public relations professionals, but each September we take the opportunity to focus a little more on our ethics training regimen.
This year, there are some great opportunities for you to grow as a professional and strengthen your ethical core. A few of these opportunities are listed below, but make sure you check out prsa.org for more details about these events and others. Have a great ethical workout this month!

Happenings From Our Membership
While on a trip to California this summer Jeff White, APR and his wife Mara stopped by to see long-time Central Iowa PRSA member Ferne Bonomi, APR, Fellow PRSA. Ferne moved to Vallejo, California, a couple years ago to be closer to family and this year marks her 48th year as a PRSA member. In 2010, Ferne received PRSA’s Patrick Jackson Distinguished Service Award for her significant contributions to advancing PRSA nationally and at the chapter levels, as well as furthering the society by inspiring fellow practitioners professionally and personally. Ferne literally wrote the book on the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) program through the development of study guides and coaching methods still being used by APR instructors and candidates across the nation.
#CommCares for Harvey Disaster Relief
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the University of Houston is working to raise money for an emergency scholarship fund for students in their Valenti School of Communications. They have about 2,000 majors in the school, and almost all of them work at least part time to support their education. Under normal circumstances, paying tuition and other associated costs can be hard. But for some, Harvey has made it that much harder, as many have lost their homes, cars and possessions. They are hoping this fund can help reduce the need for students to choose between continuing college and acquiring basic necessities. 100 percent of donations will be used for students in need, and it really is needed.
If you feel compelled and are able to donate financially, you can do so through the "Valenti Scholarship Fund" on this page through UH.
