China and the United States are engaged in a bitter trade dispute. Local and global markets and economies are shaken. This is especially true in Iowa, home to significant technology, farm and manufacturing sectors highly dependent on exports to the country of 1.4 billion people. Given China is the number-one destination for U.S. soybean exports, Iowa soybean farmers have taken the brunt of the dispute as market prices have plummeted. Since March 2018, the Ankeny-based Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) has fielded hundreds of media requests from around the world and conducted multiple trips to China meeting with U.S. and Chinese officials. Aaron Putze, APR, ISA Communications Director, will provide unique insights into the trade war, what’s at stake for Iowa and public relations communications lessons learned.
