You have an opportunity to get involved and put your communications skills to a good cause. PRSA Central Iowa selected Everybody Wins! Iowa (EWI) to volunteer our services to help with their public relations efforts. The organization, focused on children's literacy, is looking to drive mentor recruitment and reading site sponsorships and funding in 2020. Erica Turner, APR, is leading our public relations committee to produce a variety of tactics. You can volunteer in the following areas:
- Develop presentation decks and related materials (design experience ideal)
- Plan a social media/content calendar for deployment by the EWI team
- Develop and share content and social media best practices guide for the EWI team
- Develop an email marketing strategy that aligns with key events and messaging around recruitment and sponsorship
Please contact Erica ([email protected]) by Friday, February 7, if you are interested in helping.
Kudos to Annette and Shari
Kudos to PRSA Central Iowa members Annette Hacker and Shari Saunders-Behnke for serving on the 2020 Metro Marketing Mixer planning committee. More than 200 communications professionals attended the networking event on Thursday, January 23 at the River Center. I had the opportunity to visit with a dozen or more individuals who visited the PRSA Central Iowa table. We hope to continue participating in this annual networking event, which raised more than $1,000 for the Food Bank of Iowa.
Brush up on data privacy laws
If you haven’t done so already, please sign up to attend our first quarterly luncheon of 2020 — Thursday, February 20. Enjoy a break from the doldrums of winter by stepping through an oasis at the Botanical Garden. The topic this quarter is data privacy laws and how they affect us as communicators. Encourage a colleague to join you. Please note the change in our start time. We moved back the start time to 11:30 a.m., based on feedback and research from other organizations who host luncheons.
Ryan Johnson, APR
Curious about how evolving privacy laws affect public relations and marketing professionals? PRSA Central Iowa’s first luncheon of the year will have some answers for you.
On February 20, 2020, attorney Shannon Holmberg of Davis Brown Law Firm, will walk attendees through the basics of CCPA, GDPR and data privacy laws. Though these laws were made in places far from our state, they have far-reaching consequences that could impact businesses right here in Iowa. Holmberg will dive into what these existing laws are, and what they could mean for your role as a communicator.
